Diarrea

Acute:Infections (bacterial, viral, fungal, protozoan, parasitic), toxic (food poisoning, chemical), antibiotics and drugs, appendicitis, diverticular disease, gastrointesinal bleeding, ischemic colitis, food intoerance, fecal impaction (paradoxical diarrhea).


Chronic: After gastrectomy or vagotomy, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, ulcerative colitis, malabsorption, diverticular disease, carcinoma, villous adenoma, functional bowel dissorders (irritable colon, mucous colitis), pseudomembranous colitis, endocrine disease (carcinoid, hyperthyroidism, Addison's disease), radiation enteritis, drugs, Whipple's disease, amyloidosis, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).

Diarrha with blood: Food poisoning (bacterial infection), bacillary dysentary, amebic dysentary, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, ischemic colitis, pseudomembranous colitis, yersinia enterocolitica colitis, carcinoma of the colom.
